Illegal Drugs (posted 5/17/10)

If we take an objective look at the “drug war”, we can’t have a very positive impression. Drugs of all kinds are readily available in the market, our prisons are overloaded with prisoners convicted of non-violent drug-related crimes. We have done little or nothing to curtail demand. We have enriched the drug cartels with profane amounts of wealth that they can use to kill or corrupt our police (and those of our neighbor’s police forces).

So, how do we deal with this problem:
  • Legalize all recreational drug possession
  • Liberalize prescription such that any treatment center can prescribe any drug
  • Heavily tax recreational drugs (like we do alcohol & tobacco)
  • Use the tax money to fund treatment and education
  • Release prisoners incarcerated for non-violent drug charges
