2009 Hunt
Four novice hunters joined Steve Guerrieri up at his ranch, the Lazy F Bar Ranch, in Crested Butte to learn something about hunting. Amazingly, Steve and his group took four beginners and we each got an elk. Sam Bryant, John Samaneigo, Don MacGregor and Doug MacGregor made the trip. We all learned a lot.
John gets some advertising in so that he can get a break from the gun shop. He bagged that 4-pointer just at dusk but was kind enough to shoot it near a road that we could get an ATV into to pack it out. What a way to end the 2nd day. But Sam was not about to be outdone so he shot a 5-pointer at about the same time.
The 3rd day, Don and Doug hiked up the hill and when it was about time to get heading back, what should appear but a small herd with at least 2 bulls. Doug closed his eyes and got lucky. Don’t ask him about trying to shoot with the safety on. : - ) Then there was one. Saving the best for last, Don went out on the 4th morning and nailed his elk.
The boys at the cabin. It’s nice to see it in the daylight. Most of our experience was stumbling out around 4:30 AM under the stars or stumbling back late at night. We had a great time and really appreciate the job that Steve, Nick and Cody did.
